What this building is

Twenty Lofts is a soft loft at 20 Gladstone Avenue, in Beaconsfield Village. It was purpose-built as housing in 2016, not converted from an earlier use. The catalogue records 128 units.

Purpose-built in the loft idiom: open plans, tall windows and exposed services, but new construction rather than a conversion.

Twenty is a seven-storey loft condominium at 20 Gladstone Avenue, near the intersection of Queen Street West and Gladstone Avenue in West Queen West. It occupies the east side of the block redeveloped by Streetcar Developments and Dundee Realty, now Dream, and was described as the final phase of a project that also includes Two Gladstone, Eight Gladstone and The Carnaby. The building sits immediately north of Eight Gladstone.

The architect was TACT Architecture, and the model suites were designed by Seven Haus Design. The street facade is clad in brick, with vertical concrete fins on the balconies and a pattern of recessed and projecting volumes, and the upper levels step back from the street. At launch the building was planned with about 113 suites in one bedroom, one bedroom plus den and two bedroom layouts, ranging from about 480 to 910 square feet, many with exposed fixtures, bare concrete ceilings and ceilings of about nine feet. The structure had topped off with much of its exterior cladding in place by September 2015.

The redeveloped block is crossed by a pedestrian mews running north to south between Peel Avenue and Queen Street, linking the buildings with shops and studio space. The 501 Queen streetcar runs along Queen Street West, where Two Gladstone, at the southeast corner of the block, faces the Gladstone Hotel.
