The SoHo Metropolitan is a combined hotel and condominium building at the corner of Blue Jays Way and Wellington Street West in the Entertainment District, with the residences at 36 Blue Jays Way and the hotel at 318 Wellington Street West. It was built from scratch on a former parking lot and opened in April 2003. Hotelier Henry Wu, owner of the Metropolitan hotels in Toronto and Vancouver, partnered with local developer Bruce Greenberg to build a condominium tower with a boutique hotel at its base.
Reports from the opening describe a building of about 16 storeys, with a hotel of roughly 88 to 89 rooms on the lower floors and private condominiums above, many of them laid out as two-storey lofts. Finishes noted at the time included maple wood, marble and floor-to-ceiling windows.
The building stands north of the Rogers Centre, formerly SkyDome, and the CN Tower rises a short distance to the southeast. The 504 King streetcar runs along King Street West one block to the north, and St. Andrew station on Line 1 is to the east at King Street and University Avenue.
